VPNs and OpenDNS - use Typo Exceptions

OpenDNS cannot resolve names that are on private networks, so some VPN software which tries to ask OpenDNS for an internal domain will fail.

Typo Exceptions provides a simple solution.

  1. Create a free account or sign in to your account.
  2. Add a network, if you haven't already.
  3. Go to the Settings tab.
  4. Click Advanced Settings.
  5. Click Manage under Manage VPN Exceptions in the Domain Typos section.
  6. Add your internal domain(s) to this list.
  7. Wait 3 minutes (worst case) and all should be well.

If you have a problem, make sure that your current IP address (as shown in the Dashboard or at http://www.whatismyip.org/) matches the Network in your OpenDNS account where you've applied the Typo Exceptions.
