OpenDNS CEO David Ulevitch to Speak at O’Reilly Velocity Conference, Share Operations Expertise

OpenDNS CEO to Speak to Leading Network Performance and Operations Experts about Load Balancing in the Cloud

Mar 25, 2008 — SAN FRANCISCO – OpenDNS, the award-winning DNS provider that makes the Internet safer, faster, smarter and more reliable, today announced CEO David Ulevitch will speak to the technology industry’s leading network performance and operations experts at the 2008 O’Reilly Velocity Conference. The O’Reilly Velocity Conference is the leading event for “people building at Internet scale,” and the place to obtain the crucial skills and knowledge to build successful web sites that are fast, scalable, resilient, and highly available. OpenDNS is the world’s largest, fastest-growing DNS service.

Who: David Ulevitch, founder and CEO of OpenDNS

What: Ulevitch will lead the session, “BGP Blackmagic: Load-Balancing in the Cloud.” When it comes time to balance your service across an array of datacenters, and provide failover, things can get complicated. Most load-balancing solutions only get you so far and don’t handle datacenter failures well. Some folks just give up and outsource to CDNs like Akamai or Limelight. But that doesn’t always work with complex dynamic content. So how do you scale out? This is a talk for operators and architects of large systems who want to learn how BGP can be used to scale services globally.

From Ulevitch: “Let’s talk about designing scalable networks and architectures that span multiple datacenters. Oh, and let’s do it with the ‘cheap but reliable’ methodology. Everything I am going to talk about is doable with open-source software and commodity hardware. Also, everything I will discuss can be done in stages, as you grow, I mean, scale up.”

When: Tuesday, June 24 at 2:15 p.m.

Where: The O’Reilly Velocity Web Performance and Operations Conference, held at the San Francisco Airport Marriott in Burlingame, California.
