Democratic Party of Oregon Switches to OpenDNS, Enjoys Total Internet Reliability
State Political Party Business Office Chooses OpenDNS for Speedy, Reliable Service
Jun 27, 2007 — SAN FRANCISCO – OpenDNS, the award-winning DNS provider that makes the Internet safer, faster, smarter and more reliable, today announced the Democratic Party of Oregon has switched to OpenDNS from the DNS it previously got from its ISP. The Democratic Party of Oregon is the state branch of the national Democratic National Committee. OpenDNS is the world’s-largest, fastest-growing DNS service.
The Democratic Party of Oregon set up OpenDNS as a forwarder for all internal and external DNS requests, as well as configured it locally on laptops that travel with staffers. OpenDNS has provided the state Party with 100 percent Internet uptime and freed its full-time employees, volunteers and interns from annoying Internet outages.
“We are totally dependent on Internet for most of our interactions with others outside the office: e-mail, online donations, access to voter lists and access to activist information,” said John Springer, network administrator for the Democratic Party of Oregon. “If the Internet goes down, we go down. That's why we use OpenDNS.”
As the 2008 Presidential, U.S. Senate and other campaigns ramp up, reliable DNS is more important now than ever. Springer has seen dramatic differences in speed and reliability since the Party switched to OpenDNS from the DNS it got from its ISP.
“We switched to OpenDNS because it’s a consistent, reliable, rapidly updated DNS service,” said Springer. “It does not depend on what ISP I'm using, I can configure routers easily to set up at remote event sites, laptops can use it reliably no matter where they are and it updates quickly so I don't have long delays with updates to my own DNS entries. It’s a great service.”
